First Week of School

Thanks to Hurricane Irene, the boys had an extra day of summer vacation.
They were thrilled.
Mom...not so much.
I was very ready for them to go back to school. I love my boys dearly, but we all needed some breathing room from each other. You know the old saying, "absence makes the heart grow fonder"?  Let's hope it's true.

                     S....ready for 2nd grade!

New Year's Resolutions (School Edition)

I'm not very fond of New Year's resolutions each January. I'm not compelled to change the way I do things just because the date on the calendar is different. I may "talk the talk", but to be honest, I NEVER follow through  any of them. The only changes I DO follow through with, are fixing the mistakes I make in writing the wrong year all month long.

My TRUE resolutions come the last week of every August....BACK TO SCHOOL!

After almost three months of fun in the sun, late nights, and a care free attitude, I'm ready to buckle down and get back into a groove. I CRAVE the routine. My kids do too (although they may beg to differ).

Now is the time I reflect. What worked well last year? What will I NEVER do again?  How can I make our routine run smoother?  What can I do to make our lives feel less frazzled? What can I do to make ME feel less frazzled?

Then there are home improvements and craft projects to tackle. I eagerly anticipate the few alone hours I will have in order to complete them.  I, of course, have a list a 3 miles long. If I get to half of them by June, I will be thrilled!

But, right now, I am sitting in a quiet house... windows open ... a touch of autumn in the air... listening to the crickets...a much deserved glass of wine...not really thinking about the upcoming year.

I'm just enjoying the moment and catching my breath before a new, busy, school year begins.

School Math

Since I was up last night  because 2 out of my 3 children don't sleep, I was doing some calculations  with the upcoming school year and beyond.

R= 5 (Elem)       S= 2 (Elem)       L= Pre-K
R= 6 (Mid)         S= 3 (Elem)        L= K (Elem)
R =7 (Mid)         S= 4 (Elem)        L = 1 (Elem)
R = 8 (Mid)        S= 5 (Elem)        L= 2 (Elem)
R= 9 (HS)          S= 6 (Mid)           L= 3 (Elem)
R= 10 (HS)        S= 7 (Mid)          L= 4 (Elem)
R= 11 (HS)        S= 8 (Mid)          L= 5 (Elem)
R= 12 (HS)        S= 9 (HS)            L= 6 (Mid)
R= college         S= 10 (HS)          L= 7 (Mid)
R= college         S= 11 (HS)          L= 8 (Mid)
R= college         S= 12 (HS)          L= 9 (HS)
R= college         S= college           L= 10 (HS)
R= Career         S= college           L= 11 (HS)
R=Career           S= college          L= 12 (HS)
R= Career          S- college           L= college

OK, I need to go pass out now....

I can't believe in two days I will have a 10 year old! Really? Where did time go? The festivities began on Friday when we got the word that R made it to AAA baseball. We are talking REAL baseball...two umpires, pitch count, no coaches on the field, stealing bases, the whole nine yards. He did OK at the try outs, but we were prepared for him to play AA. I am so proud and excited for him! I'm looking forward to baseball season again.

The celebration continued on Saturday, after the first baseball practice, with R's first sleepover party. It was a lot of fun and we now have 3 tuckered out kiddos (plus 2 tired parents!)  The fun will continue until Tuesday, his official birthday. The best part of my boys' birthdays? Reminiscing about their birth stories as they cuddle with me. I think they love to hear it just as much as I love to tell it!

On Top of Spaghetti....

Yes, they are cupcakes. We went to L's Spaghetti Dinner and Basket Raffle to benefit his beyond wonderful pre-school. We even won a basket while I was changing L's pull-up in the bathroom. Of course! It was full of counting games, books and activities. The boys were VERY excited. I love how even simple things can excite them :)

Ummm, yeah...

Really? I really haven't posted in 3 weeks? Really?

I don't have a good excuse. Life. That's a good excuse. Right?

Let's see, we have packed the holidays away and have been dealing with extremely cold weather.  There have been several snow storms that have only amounted to 2 hour delays and a headache.

I joined Weight Watchers and am LOVING the new plan. I love my free fruit!! I was down 3.8 the first week. Yay me!!! I have a long way to go, but I will get there.

I have an awesome incentive to lose weight. I have tickets to go see NKOTB and BSB in concert on July 29th in Atlantic City. The ones I was watching during my last post on NYE :) I am going with my cousin and a friend (and friend's friend).  We may have some other girls join us to hang out (no concert) while in AC. Let me just say, 6 months seems to be a lifetime away!

My plan is to NOT wait 3 weeks before I post again, but you know, life......
